Orlando leaders, Hertz and OCPS collaborate to expand electric vehicles in the community

ORLANDO, Fla. — Look out for new public charging stations and more electric cars in Orlando.

The city announced its partnership with Hertz on Thursday.

Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Public Schools are also part of the Hertz Electrifies Orlando initiative.

The initiative shows the city’s commitment to educating the public on electric cars’ environmental and economic benefits.

According to a news release, this fits with one of Dyer’s 2030 Electric Mobility Roadmap goals: fight climate change, reduce emissions, and increase access to cleaner energy systems.

Hertz Electrifies Orlando expands Hertz’s EV rental fleet by 6,000 cars, speeds up the transition to electric vehicles and installs up to 50 fast chargers in Orlando.

It will offer opportunities for young people in Orange County through the Orange Technical College program.

Hertz will donate an electric vehicle to OTC and provide training to support students who want to become EV technicians.

“Having access to electric vehicles provides critical hands-on experience with new technology for students in Orange County,” said Dr. Maria Vazquez, superintendent of OCPS.

Hertz will also have summer jobs through the Orlando Summer Youth Employment Program.
