Robotic surgery allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with more precision and control than conventional surgery.

Orlando Health hosted a Robotic Surgery Symposium in San Juan, where panelists discussed surgical techniques in different specialties such as gynecology, thoracic surgery, lung cancer treatment, and more.

Dr. Alexis Sanchez is the director of Orlando Health’s robotic surgery program. He said the conference supported the development of the program.

“Through this partnership, we continue to share knowledge as we work toward the ultimate goal of the program providing the best healthcare to people on the island using the latest technology,” Sanchez said.

Robotic surgery has several benefits. Using small incisions, patients will have less trauma to their bodies. Also, the risk of complications is lower, and the healing process is faster.

With this technology, surgeons gain a magnified 3D view inside the body, making the surgery less invasive.

“In Puerto Rico, there have only been a few places that can perform this type of procedure,” said Juan Carlos Marcial, chief executive officer of the Doctors’ Center Hospital Orlando Health – Dorado. “By opening this new center in Dorado, it’s going to increase the access to our patients and give them a high-quality service in a state-of-the-art facility.”
