The department’s arson-bomb squad showed off a spray box installed in one of their trucks Thursday.

The self-contained water system has enough pressure to spray tools down and prevent cross-contamination.

Fire officials said this is more efficient than the old way of cleaning their tools.

“The old way we used to do it, we used to have an old pesticide sprayer, a bucket of water, and some kind of scrub brush,” said Aaron Stover of the Orlando Fire Arson Bomb Squad. “We would have to scrub all our tools from one fire scene to another in front of a witness.”

Firefighters said cases had been compromised under the old system, so they hope the spray boxes will help improve prosecution rates.
