ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida’s new professional football team will be welcomed by city leaders Wednesday at Camping World Stadium.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer is set to hold a news conference at 10 a.m. and will be joined by XFL Chairwoman Dany Garcia and head coach, and Former Florida State star, Terrell Buckley, of the new Orlando Guardians team.

Dwayne Johnson is part of the ownership group that took over the league from WWE’s Vince McMahon after the XFL filed for bankruptcy in 2020 when their season was cut short due to the coronavirus.

The other seven teams announced are Arlington, Houston, and San Antonio, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Seattle, WA; St. Louis, MO; and Washington, D.C.

The Guardians will open their debut season on Feb. 18 at Houston, and its first home game will be on Sunday, Feb. 26 against the San Antonio Brahmas.
