Winter Park’s iconic Skycraft signage takes flight to new location

WINTER PARK, Fla. — For decades, the Skycraft Parts and Surplus flying saucer has presided over the intersection of Interstate 4 and Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park.

Over the weekend, the saucer took flight to the shop’s new location.

The hobby store, which opened in 1974, is moving from its home on Fairbanks Avenue to a new location at 5021 Edgewater Drive in Orlando.

The store posted videos on its Facebook page of the saucer lifting off from the roof of its existing location with the help of a crane to transport it to its new home.

Skycraft is set to reopen at its new location on Sept. 7.
