‘We didn’t create this’: Apopka residents still looking for solution with neighborhood flooding

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — People living in the Clear Lake Estates subdivision near Apopka have been dealing with a flooding problem for months.

For resident Gregory Griffith, it’s a situation without a solution.

“I’m past whose problem this is and let’s move forward to how do we fix this,” Griffith said.

In September, the Apopka public services director said in an email: “This is a natural condition situation and no artificial mechanism such as sandbags or pumping can mitigate the existing flooding.”

Venus Griffith said after meeting with the City of Apopka and St. Johns River Water Management District, that residents were no closer to a solution but it was clear as to who was responsible.

“This is not our problem, we didn’t create this, they did,” she said.
