ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The University of Central Florida conferred its 400,000th degree Friday since the university started classes in 1968.

NASA employee Laura Segarra marked the milestone when she accepted her doctorate in industrial engineering at the summer commencement ceremony.

Segarra was the first in her family to graduate from college and has worked with the Space Shuttle Program, the Commercial Crew Program and other American companies for the first commercial human spaceflight to the International Space Station.
Across the three commencement ceremonies that took place this weekend, UCF conferred about 3,900 degrees.

Historically, UCF has awarded the following:
- 78,000 degrees in STEM fields.
- 75,000 business degrees.
- 50,000 degrees in education.
- 48,000 degrees in engineering, computer science and optics.
- 47,000 degrees in health professions.
- More than 63,000 master’s degrees.
- More than 7,000 doctoral degrees.
