School resource officers conference in Orlando focuses on training, safety

ORLANDO, Fla. — School resource officers are already preparing for the upcoming start of the school year.

The 43rd annual School Safety Conference was held in Orlando this week.

Law enforcement agencies and school administrators from all over the state were in attendance.

The conference outlined new training measures for officers as well as safety tactics in the classroom for teachers.

“Kids are invaluable. They hear everything, they see everything,” said Rebekah Morris with the Kissimmee Police Department. “Whether it’s from others kids, adults, it doesn’t matter. We need them to know it’s OK to come to us to talk to us and let us know what’s going on.”

The Florida Association of School Resource Officers is the oldest and largest school policing organization in the entire U.S., with more than 800 members.
