ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Residents who live at Arden Villas Apartment Complex are sending a message to their landlord on Sunday: “Make our homes safe, or you won’t be getting rent money.”

This comes just one day after Orange County Sheriff’s deputies found the body of former employee and resident, Miya Marcano.

Investigators believe one of the complex’s maintenance workers, Armando Caballero, abducted her from her apartment last Friday.

Deputies said complex maintenance worker Armando Caballero used his master key to open Marcano’s apartment door when she wasn’t home.

Investigators are still waiting on autopsy results to determine Miya’s cause of death.

People living there say not much has changed despite the recent discovery.

Many of the residents living there said Miya’s death falls on the apartment complex.

Posters stating “Arden Villas is responsible” now hang in front of multiple balconies in the complex.

On Tuesday, the complex released a statement stating that they were adding more security. It also stated, “We immediately repositioned a guard to the front gate to document all residents and guests entering and leaving the premises.”

On Sunday, Channel 9 arrived at the complex and found there was no guard on duty and Channel 9 was able to drove right through the open gate without being stopped.

Channel 9 reached out to the apartment complex to ask for a comment regarding the open gate on Sunday.

Residents are asking for more lights and cameras, resident compensation and proper gate security.

Flyers popping up around the complex are also telling residents to refuse to pay rent, with the hashtag #makeardenanswer.

The QR code on the flyers leads people to a Change.org petition with more than 2,500 signatures in under 24 hours from people supporting the cause.
