ORLANDO, Fla. — A 26-year-old Windermere man fired an AR-style rifle in downtown Orlando early Thursday, the Orlando Police Department said.
Police said Ryan Sarjoo shot the gun shortly before 3 a.m. near South Orange Avenue and East Pine Street.
A witness said he saw Sarjoo arguing with another man when he grabbed the rifle and fired a shot into the air before placing the rifle in a BMW and cocking a Glock handgun, an arrest report said.
The report said an officer said Sarjoo did not appear to understand that he made the wrong decision by firing his gun because people wanted to fight him.
Sarjoo was arrested on charges of openly carrying firearms. Police said additional charges of discharging a firearm in public and improper exhibition of dangerous weapons or firearms are being filed with the state attorney’s office.
“The Orlando Police will work closely with the state attorney’s office to request any and all additional charges be filed, as this type of reckless behavior will not be tolerated in our city,” Orlando police Chief Orlando Rolón said in a statement.
No one was injured.
A woman who said she’s a family friend of Sarjoo spoke to Channel 9 by phone, saying Sarjoo felt threatened by a group of men who were targeting him and another man and that it is not in his nature to do something dangerous.
Those who were in the same area Friday were stunned to see the video.

“That’s crazy,” resident Orlando Jones said. “That type of power (he has) carrying that around -- he’s a danger to everybody.”
“That’s really dangerous,” Isaac Burgos said. “That should not be allowed whatsoever.”
