ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police arrested two teens they say robbed and battered an elderly woman at gunpoint last week.

Police said the incident happened behind a plaza off Clarcona Ocoee Road around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 5. Orlando police haven’t said which store they were in, but a manager inside the Dollar General said it was their store.

Officers said Schye Smith, 16, also known as “Peanut,” and Quinten Siplin, 15, are charged with armed robbery with a firearm and battery on an elderly person.

Police said the two teens approached the elderly woman outside a business in the plaza and asked her for money, which the woman wouldn’t give them.

The woman told police that as she walked behind the plaza, the same two teens pulled up next to her in an older model Toyota Corolla and demanded her purse. When she refused to hand it over, they battered her and robbed her at gunpoint, officers said.

The woman told police the teens made off with her purse, which had $600 in cash inside.

Officers said the woman was also battered during the incident.

Orlando police said the suspects were arrested by the Apopka Police Department for committing an armed robbery in Apopka. They said media reports helped detectives determine that they were the same teens involved in the Orlando incident.
