Orlando leaders to vote on Main Street program for West Lakes community

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando’s Main Street program could be getting a new addition if approved by the city council on Monday.

The West Lakes Partnership is a community that has been petitioning the city for a Main Street program for years.

Some advantages of the Main Street program are to bring existing businesses together and to entice other businesses to come to the neighborhood.

Two major components, one business owner says, are missing in the West Lakes community.

Business owner Glen Providence has operated Hebni Nutrition for more than a decade, and just recently, he opened up Smile.

“I make homemade ice cream,” Providence said.

He said his ice cream creates smiles, but not enough business.

To boost businesses inside the community, city leaders are expected to approve a Market Street program during its next meeting.

The program provides funding to attract businesses and make improvements in the area.

Orlando has 10 Main Street programs, including the Milk District.
