ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A library system in Central Florida will celebrate a significant milestone this year.

The Orange County Public Library System is honoring 100 years of service to the community with various activities and memorabilia throughout 2023.
There will also be a limited edition card design and special craft activities.

The 100-Year Celebration kicked off Saturday with a ribbon cutting and rededication at the Albertson Public Library at the corner of Central Boulevard and Rosalind Avenue.
According to a release, the Orange County Library System all started with a donation from a retired New York police inspector.

Captain Charles Albertson, who visited Orlando, donated more than 12,000 books, and the city agreed to build a permanent library for the books.
OCLS said the downtown Orlando library opened on Nov. 8, 1923, and now, the library system has 15 branches with over 3 million items in circulation.
OCLS designed a logo for the centennial, which guests can see on library materials and items in the gift shop.
