New Orlando police recruits take time to know the residents they will serve

ORLANDO, Fla. — In just a few weeks new police officers will hit the streets of Orlando.

Twenty-two new recruits were sworn in Friday morning.

The community had a chance to meet and greet the new officers.

Chi Chen, 33, said it was his childhood dream to become an officer, but he didn’t have the confidence until now.

Chen said he’s excited to represent for his community and non-English speakers.

“This is a reason I joined OPD, because, you know, people who speak Mandarin come from all around the world as a tourist or colonies,” Chen said. “So it’s going to be my pleasure to serve, provide the service.”

The new officers will now start field training.
