ORLANDO, Fla. — A popular event returns to downtown Orlando this weekend.
FusionFest will be held Saturday and Sunday on the Front Yard at the Doctor Phillips Center.

The event will mix together colorful music, vibrant clothing and delicious food.
Terry Olson has been part of the local arts scene since 1982, and helped to create this celebration of Central Florida’s diverse community.

“There’s just something about everything, for representation of the many cultures that we have here in Central Florida,” Olson said. “Throughout history, sometimes when people are different and things are changing, people get fearful and that can lead to hate. We think let’s do the opposite because studies show that, when people have different perspectives come together, they’re more creative and innovative and have a greater influence.” This will be the fourth year for FusionFest, and it’s free to the public.
Those who have gone in the past will still see the traditional processional of the flags and exciting performances.

But new this year, an opening extravaganza that will be trumpeted from the downtown rooftops.
“Keith Ley, composer from Full Sail, has created these instruments based on train horns and placed them on top of rooftops, the skyscrapers around, and compose a fanfare,” Olson said. “There’ll be a couple dozen trumpet players on balconies.”
FusionFest runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and then noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
