Fund available for Central Floridians financially impacted by COVID-19 pandemic

The Heart of Florida United Way has established a fund to help support Central Floridians who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials said the fund is geared to support those who fall into the “ALICE” population, which stands for asset limited, income constrained, employed.

CEO Jeff Hayward said his organization has contributed $100,000 to the fund so far, and is asking for community support to help as many families as possible.

“This is going to be an extremely challenging time for our community, and we’re going to see a lot of pain with families not able to pay their rent, increase in evictions, increase in kids not being able to get food, perhaps utilities will not be paid,” Hayward said.

The fund will be used for people who live in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties with moderate- to low-income and are hourly workers. Hayward said residents must demonstrate financial need by presenting documentation such as bank statements, pay stubs and rent agreements.
