‘Freedom for Cuba’ rally in Orlando continues call of support for embattled island nation

ORLANDO, Fla. — Thousands of people across the country are protesting for freedom in Cuba.

The movement includes a group of Cuban-Americans who have gathered to rally support in Orlando.

Supporters gathered Sunday near the Sodano’s supermarket on Semoran Boulevard and Curry Ford Road.

They held Cuban and American flags as they chanted “Freedom for Cuba.”

Organizers are trying to get everyone’s attention ahead of a large, planned protest Monday in Cuba.

People on the island are fighting for freedom, and the release of thousands who were arrested after protests erupted in July.

Many in Orlando said they understand there are also concerns about the Cuban people getting enough food, water, medicine and internet access.

Organizers said they plan to have more people gather at 4 p.m. at the Sodano’s for another rally on Monday.
