FHP investigating fatal crash after driver got out to check on injured deer, troopers say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened Saturday morning in Orange County.

Deputies said the crash occurred near Alafaya Trail and Gemini Boulevard around 2:25 a.m.

According to deputies, the victim was traveling northbound on Alafaya Trail in a 2017 Mitsubishi.

The driver stopped her car in the center lane, activated her hazards and got out to check on a deer that had been hit and was laying in the road.

Deputies said the driver of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, traveling northbound on Alafaya, did not see the pedestrian and hit her with the front of the vehicle.

According to troopers, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
