Face coverings now optional in outdoor common areas of Walt Disney World, resort says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Walt Disney World announced late Friday that face masks will now be “optional” in outdoor common areas and pool decks, according to the resort’s website.

“Starting May 15, face coverings for Guests will be optional in outdoor common areas at Walt Disney World Resort, with the exception that Guests must wear face coverings from the entrances at all attractions, theaters or transportation and throughout those experiences,” a Disney spokesperson said.

According to Disney, face masks are still required in many parts of the resort, including:

  • Upon entering and throughout all attractions
  • All theaters, including theater entrances
  • All transportation, including transportation entrances
  • All indoor locations, including restaurants, except when actively eating or drinking while stationary

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday eased mask-wearing guidance for Americans who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, saying that they no longer need to wear masks to protect against the virus. Read more here.
