Drive-by shooting victim remembered at vigil filled with tears, laughter

ORLANDO, Fla. — Exactly a week later, people gathered outside a house in Orlando where a 21-year-old father-to-be was killed in a drive-by shooting.

Daniel Moore was gunned down in front of his Pine Hills home on City Park Avenue, just off Mercy Drive. His family and friends gathered to honor the life of a man who was remembered as a practical joker.

“They killed me because, now I have to live every day of my life for the rest of my life without him,” said Pepper Newton, Moore’s mother.

Moore was about to have a baby with his girlfriend, his family said.

“I know that we are spiritual beings having a human experience here on Earth, I know that,” Newton said. "But my human side is just so selfish and I want him back."

Court records show Moore had a court record with several arrests in Orange County, but most of those charges were dropped.

Newton believes her son was targeted, and wants whoever pulled the trigger to come forward.

“They need to be held accountable, they need to be brought to justice,” Newton said. “We want that, because I don’t want anyone to have to go through what I’m going through right now. I wouldn’t wish that, not even on the people who pulled the trigger, I would not wish it on their parents. This is horrible.”
