TRAFFIC ALERT: How to get around downtown Orlando I-4 ramp closure

ORLANDO, Fla. — Heads up: The Interstate 4 entrance ramp you use in downtown Orlando may not be in the same place it was during your last commute.

The Florida Department of Transportation said an Interstate 4 entrance ramp at West Colonial Drive closed for the next six months as of Sunday evening.

To get around the closure, drivers can instead continue south on North Hughey Avenue and enter westbound lanes of the interstate at the West South Street entrance ramp.

A third southbound lane of North Hughey Avenue will open between West Colonial Drive and West South Street to accommodate extra traffic during the closure.

FDOT said the closure will allow crews to safely construct the new permanent westbound I-4 lanes through downtown Orlando.

The closure is part of the agency's $2.3 billion I-4 Ultimate project, which is reconstructing 21 miles of the interstate from Orlando to Longwood.
