Deputies said they were notified that Wilson’s son, Avion Barner, was found unresponsive in a bathtub inside their apartment at Key Suites.
The child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the arrest report, video footage showed Wilson pulling her son from the apartment across OBT to the lake, before walking back to the apartment alone six minutes later. Deputies said the footage shows Wilson then return to the lake alone and come back to the complex carrying her limp son over her shoulder.
An hour and a half later, deputies said Wilson returned to the lake by herself and went in, prompting the call for a water rescue.
Wilson’s mother, Elandia Green, who found her grandson unresponsive in the bathtub, said her daughter doesn’t need to be in jail, she needs help.
“She is bipolar and schizophrenic and she was diagnosed with that when she was 10 years old,” Green said. “She has tried to commit suicide to herself.”
She said she is devastated to have lost her only grandchild, but said he daughter more than anything needs mental health assistance. She said the naked, unresponsive woman who was pulled out of the lake Wednesday was not the daughter she knows.
“This is her only child, my only grandbaby and I’m so lost for words,” Green said. “My daughter she’s a good girl, she’s not bad. Everybody’s looking at her like she’s bad. She’s not, I’m telling you.”
