The City of Orlando invites residents to participate in enriching events, including a community celebration, an art exhibition, and a “Meet the Artists” reception.
The events aim to highlight this year’s Black History Month theme, “African Americans and Labor,” showcasing the significant role Black Americans have played in shaping the workforce.

Welcome to February’s Black History Month in the City of Orlando events; here are the things to do.
City of Orlando’s Black History Month Art Exhibition Opening Reception
When: Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 5 pm Orlando
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Shan Rose, District 6 City Commissioner Bakari F. Burns and the Orlando City Council invite you to Orlando’s Opening Reception of the Black History Month Art Exhibition on February 5, 2025, 5–8 pm on Terrace Gallery, Orlando City Hall.
The display showcases art pieces of 33 local visual artists inspired by this year’s national Black History Month theme, “African Americans and Labor,” which focuses on the various and profound ways works of all kinds – free and unfree, skilled and unskilled, professional, vocational and voluntary – intersect with the collective experiences of Black culture.
The exhibition also highlights, celebrates, and honors the contributions and the artistic exploration of labor’s transformative impact on Black experiences and furthers Orlando’s continued efforts to create a more equitable, inclusive community for all residents.
The art exhibition runs from February 5, 2025, until Sunday, March 30, 2025.

City of Orlando’s Black History Month Community Celebration Event
When: Tuesday, February 11, 2025, 5:30 pm Orlando
New Covenant Baptist Church, 2210 Rio Grande Avenue
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Shan Rose, District 6 City Commissioner Bakari Burns and the Orlando City Council invite you to Orlando’s Black History Month Community Celebration. Signature Sponsor Bank of America, in partnership with WUCF TV/PBS, has joined the city to present a community screening of GOSPEL!, a PBS docuseries created by Dr. Henry Louis “Skip” Gates, Jr., Stacy L Holman, Shayla Harris on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 5:30 –8:30 pm at the New Covenant Baptist Church of Orlando, 2210 South Rio Grande Avenue.
This free event will include a reception with entertainment, food and performances by the City Beautiful Voices, our city employee choir. Before and after the documentary screening, the audience will interact with an engaging panel of community leaders and enjoy gospel performances.
The full-length GOSPEL series takes viewers on a journey to understand the rich history of Black spirituality through sermons and songs that have uplifted and inspired those on the front lines of change. Musical styles come and go, but one sound has been a constant source of strength, courage, and wisdom from the pulpit to the choir lofts: GOSPEL!

“Meet the Artists” Reception
When: Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 10 am. Orlando
Orlando City Hall, Terrace Gallery, 1st Floor
The City of Orlando, in partnership with the Downtown Orlando Partnership and Orlando Credit Union, invites our community to Meet the Artists Reception on Wednesday, February 26, from 10 am to noon at Terrace Gallery & Rotunda. This event allows our residents the opportunity to learn more about the journeys of the artists exhibiting at the BHM art exhibition and the creative process that inspires them to create art pieces that pay tribute to the heritage, culture, and contributions of the African American community in our city, state, and nation.
Continental breakfast will be provided.
