Central Florida drivers see drop in gas prices over global coronavirus impact

ORLANDO, Fla. — Concerns about the coronavirus are now driving down the price of gasoline.

The prices for crude oil were sent into a tailspin overnight, hitting lows that haven't been seen since 2016.

On Monday, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline cost $2.14 a gallon at a few gas stations in Orange County.

Crude prices have been reeling during the past two weeks as coronavirus concerns have led to lower global demand for jet fuel and gasoline.

In two weeks, the price of crude went from trading at more than $53 per barrel to $33 Sunday night, causing gas prices to dip worldwide.

Officials said Florida’s average price for gas dropped 11 cents in the past 11 days.

Drivers in Central Florida are paying 19 cents per gallon less than this time last year.
