WASHINGTON — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention described the coronavirus as explosive and unprecedented Monday and warned there are likely going to be more cases popping up in the U.S. soon.
"We expect to find additional cases of the Novel Coronavirus in the United States,” Dr. Nancy Messonnier, Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said. “We expect to see more cases of person to person spread among close contacts."
The CDC said it could become a pandemic, which is when an infectious disease threatens people around the world.
There are now 11 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the U.S. with thousands infected worldwide.
Congress has $50 million for the Infectious Diseases Rapid Response Reserve Fund which is money meant to respond to these kinds of medical emergencies.
