Apopka community holds vigil to remember fallen firefighter Austin Duran

APOPKA, Fla. — The community came together Thursday night for a vigil to wrap their arms around the family of a fallen Apopka firefighter.

Firefighter Austin Duran died last week after fighting for weeks to recover from injuries he received in the line of duty.

“This department has come together to honor a former brother and what a beautiful tribute this is,” one vigil attendee said.

Those who worked with Duran said being a firefighter was his dream.

“It means a lot. We lost a member of our family,” said Ed Bowman, father of fire chief Brian Bowman.

His death has left the Apopka community devastated.
