In February, drivers who used to get onto I-4 at Michigan Street to head toward downtown had to detour, which brought them to Kaley Avenue.
As soon as this weekend, that Kaley Avenue entrance ramp will be closing permanently because a new ramp from Michigan Street will be open.

The ultimate plan is to combine what used to be two headache-causing interchanges into one smoother ride.
“By combining the Kaley and Michigan interchanges, we can reduce the weaving on I-4 that caused so many traffic slowdowns in this area,” said Dave Parks with the I-4 Ultimate Project.
By the end of the year, one of the new features at this interchange will be what’s referred to as a “Texas U-turn.”
The layout allows drivers to turn under I-4 and use a one-way Frontage Road to get between Kaley Avenue and Michigan Street.
Texas U-turns can also be found at Colonial Drive and State Road 436 and Colonial Drive and 17-92.
