64 workers quarantined after 7 Orlando firefighters test positive for COVID-19, mayor says

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced Wednesday that seven Orlando firefighters tested positive for COVID-19.

He said that the firefighters are currently in self-isolation.

Orlando Fire Chief Benjamin Barksdale Jr. said the firefighters worked at four different locations and four of the firefighters who tested positive were recently hired and worked at a training center.

He said 64 workers came in contact with the firefighters and that they are also in self-isolation.

Thirty-two of the 64 workers came from the training center, Barksdale said.

The chief said three firefighters were operational and he doesn’t believe they came into contact with the public.

He said the firefighters tested positive on Saturday and the fire department found out Monday.

The mayor also said the city is setting up different COVID-19 testing sites around the area every Wednesday.
