PINE HILLS, Fla. — A 12-year-old boy was playing video games inside his grandma’s apartment in Pine Hills when he was shot Sunday morning, his grandma said.

At around 11:50 a.m., deputies said they responded to the 5600 block of Pine Chase Drive in reference to a shooting.

Deputies said they found a 12-year-old boy who had sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach.

The boy, Javen Maldonado, was taken to a local hospital and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

His grandmother, Phyllis Reed, said at least six buildings in Rolling Hills Apartments were hit by the gunfire.

“It was a random shooting and we were caught up in the crossfire,” she said.

Deputies said the suspects in the case are not known.

The investigation is ongoing.
