ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County students are returning to virtual school and the Orlando City Lions are participating in the final match of the MLS is Back Tournament this week.
Here’s a look at nine things happening this week:
1. Orange County students return to virtual school
The first day of class for Orange County Public Schools has been moved up to Monday, with all students learning on LaunchEd.
Face-to-face learning will follow for students who signed up for the option on Aug. 21.

2. Lake County offers free student immunization event
Lake County will host an immunization event at Lake County Fairgrounds, 2101 County Road 452, Eustis, for students on Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Parents and children will need to wear a mask and practice social distancing at this event.
The following required vaccinations will be provided:
- Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap).
- Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTaP).
- Hepatitis B (Hep B).
- Polio.
- Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).
- Varicella (chickenpox).
There is no charge for immunization if the children are still enrolled in elementary, middle or high school.
Parents or guardians must bring a copy of the child’s immunization records.
3. Lake County accepting applications for CARES Act assistance
Lake County leaders said they will begin accepting applications for the Coronavirus Relief Fund Housing Assistance Program at noon on Monday.
The program will provide assistance for past due rent, mortgage and utilities.

4. Application for Orange County CARES Small Business Grant Program to reopen
The application process for Orange County CARES Small Business Grant Program will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday.
The county said home-based businesses with three or fewer employees can now apply for mirco-grants.
The grants will range from $1,000 to $3,000. Small businesses with less than 100 employees can still qualify for $10,000 grants.
The county said it continues to send out status emails to applicants for the Orange CARES Program for Individual and Families.
Those who applied on June 22 should receive their status email later this week. Email approvals for July 13 applications will begin to go out August 10.
The county said more than $14 million has been provided to residents in need during this pandemic.

5. COVID-19 testing at Econ Soccer Complex resumes
Officials said free testing will continue at Econ Soccer Complex. The site will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

6. Free mobile COVID-19 testing site in Orlando
Orlando health officials will open an additional, free mobile COVID-19 drive-thru testing site Wednesday at First Baptist Orlando, 3000 S. John Young Parkway.
The testing site will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There is no symptom criteria for testing but appointments are required.
Individuals must be 18 years or older and show a valid Orlando or Orange County identification card.

7. Orlando City to participate in final match of MLS is Back Tournament
The Orlando City Lions will be facing the Portland Timbers in the final match of the MLS is Back Tournament.
The match will start Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.

8. Halifax Humane Society’s 10th Annual Mutt Strutt goes virtual
The Halifax Humane Society’s 10th Annual Mutt Strutt is going virtual.
On Aug. 15, grab your sneakers and your furry friend and find your favorite pet-friendly park or trail to participate in the event.

A $15 donation to the virtual walk will help cover costs of the animals at the shelter and those in the surrounding community.
9. National S’mores Day
Monday is National S’mores Day! Celebrate by eating the most popular campfire treat.
S’mores consist of a roasted marshmallow with a chocolate bar sandwiched between two pieces of a graham cracker.
