Orange County school resource officers asked to return to work despite no classes

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Some school resource officers were told to return to schools this week and stay there for the remainder of the year, despite no classes being in session.

As of Monday, SROs were put back on duty at the schools, Undersheriff Mark Canty said.

Channel 9 learned that, recently the school district was considering not paying for the SRO’s for the time school had been out.

However, the district had a change of heart, saying: “The district will be fulfilling the full payment per our contract with partnering law enforcement agencies. The first payment was made on January 31st with the final payment scheduled for June 30th.”
