ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County school district is set to discuss rules regarding which books can be found on library shelves.

Last week, leaders announced books challenged by parents will stay on shelves while they’re being reviewed.

It’s meant to prevent one single parent from blocking access to books they don’t like.
The superintendent will have the ability to order a book’s immediate removal if necessary.

“We can’t just start making a list of inappropriate topics and asking the [Department of Education] for permission,” said Karen Castor with Orange County Public Schools.
If adopted, the changes will take effect at the end of the school year.
