Orange County Public Schools sees 54 COVID-19 cases in 34 schools since in-person classes began, district says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Public Schools has seen 54 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in 34 schools and four other work locations since Aug. 21, when face-to-face instruction resumed, the district announced Tuesday.

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County has since issued 199 quarantine letters to specific students and staff at eight schools, the district reported. The schools are: East River High School, Piedmont Lakes Middle School, Lakeview Middle School, College Park Middle School, Riverside Elementary School, John Young Elementary School, North Lake Park Community School and Sunset Park Elementary School.

The Department of Health has not notified the district of any school-based transmissions, the district said, but are closely monitoring the situation.

“Please know that district safety protocols were followed as the health of our students and staff is our top priority,” the district wrote in a letter to parents.
