ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Update:
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office tweeted Thursday afternoon that the family of an Orange County deputy who sustained a head injury Monday during off-duty training at a gym has bid farewell to him.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you Deputy Michael Milmerstadt’s family has said goodbye to him,” the Sheriff’s Office tweeted. “Mike remains on life support because it’s their wish that he provide a chance at life to others through organ donation.”
The agency asked the public to pray for Milmerstadt and his family.

Officials said Deputy Michael Milmerstadt suffered a serious head injury on Monday during off-duty training at a gym.
They say he is in critical condition at a hospital.

“The entire OCSO family is praying for him and his family,” a spokesperson said.
The sheriff’s office shared a GoFundMe account to help raise money for him and his family as he recovers from brain surgery.

The crowdfunding campaign has already raised more than $79,000.
