ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Comptroller’s office is responding to a lawsuit filed by The Orange County Supervisor of Elections office.

Glen Gilzean and his team spent $5 million more than the law allows between October 1 and last week.
Part of that was more than $1 million in voter outreach grants commissioners never approved.

Two weeks after a public call, Comptroller Phil Diamond said the supervisor of elections broke state law several times after reviewing the office’s bank records.
His report claims that, at times, the office wrote checks that exceeded the funds in its bank account.

And improperly recorded expenses at the end of September that made it look like it had hundreds of thousands of more dollars at the end of the fiscal year than it really did.
