ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County leaders are expected to vote Tuesday on whether or not to place a proposed cap on rent increases on the November ballot.

During last month’s commission meeting, renters asked commissioners to put a 5% rent cap on the November ballot.

“The least that they owe us is to put it on the ballot,” said Courtney Ring, organizer of Orlando Tenant Power. “They’ve delayed this time and time again.”

So far, commissioners have been divided. Landlords said the measure would hurt their bottom line.

Even if the measure moves forward, any relief for renters wouldn’t come for months.
