Police search for leads in double homicide at Orlando apartment

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are asking for the public's help in solving the violent slayings of a man and woman in an Orlando apartment earlier this month.

Officers said they found the bodies of Renee Collins, 26, and Piterson Delhomme, 25, inside the Eagle Reserve Apartments on Cinderlane Parkway on the morning of July 17 while responding to a disturbance call. Their 2-year-old son, P.J., was found unharmed in the apartment.

Orlando police Detective Michael Moreschi said investigators spent Friday passing out 500 fliers in the area of the slayings in hopes that someone will offer up information.

"We've spent the last couple of weeks investigating the crime and now we're asking for the public's help to solve this horrible crime," Moreschi said.

Moreschi said police have found no reason for anyone to have targeted Collins or Delhomme.

"Renee and Peterson were not just low-risk victims. They were no-risk victims," Moreschi said.

Moreschi said it appeared that the couple struggled to save their lives and the life of their son.

"I've been in homicide for 10 years. This is easily one of the most violent scenes that I've ever been to," Moreschi said. "It's made more horrific by the fact that P.J. definitely saw what happened."

After the slaying, neighbors told Channel 9 that they heard what sounded like gunshots the night before.

"We heard three shots. (It) sounded like a .22 (caliber), because you could tell it wasn't very loud. And the third shot came about five minutes later, and it was louder," neighbor Kimberly Finley said.

Collins worked as a service manager at a local Wells Fargo Bank, and Delhomme worked two security jobs, authorities said. Both were from West Palm Beach and had been living in Orlando for only a short time, authorities said.

"The person who did this killed two unarmed, non-threatening, really good people," Moreschi said.

Moreschi said it is in the public's interest to find the killer.

"We are dealing with a seriously depraved individual. This is an individual that we all as a community need to have off the street," he said.

Moreschi said investigators don't believe the deaths of Collins and Delhomme are connected to the July 19 shooting death of Adam Collins, 25, at a nearby apartment complex.

Rayshaune Collins, brother of Renee Collins, said he will always remember his sister fondly.

"I'll just remember she was a great person, always seen smiling, always happy. She was a great mother. Best mother I've ever seen,"  he said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
