ORLANDO, Fla. — In the span of less than two weeks, Orlando police have shot and killed two people.

Channel 9 sat down with a retired deputy to ask when officers should fire their weapon. He said it’s a split-second decision.

Retired deputy Daniel Sells said officers are trained to first try and talk someone down and use other tools before reaching for a gun. But time isn’t always on their side.
“Less than one second up to three seconds – that’s about all the time you have to make a life and death decision,” Sells said.
