DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — UPDATE: The man shot in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday evening has died, police said.
The man killed was wanted on an open warrant, police said.
Around 8 p.m., several officers were monitoring the man who was wanted in connection to a shooting in the Fairway Estates earlier this month.
Police saw him walk out of a residence and into the passenger seat of a white four-door sedan. Officers followed the vehicle as it left the home and performed a traffic stop near the U.S. 1 and Beville intersection to take him into custody. Officers boxed in the vehicle so he could not leave and sent a K-9 unit in when the man refused to peacefully leave the vehicle, police said.
As the K-9 attempted to pull him out of the vehicle, the man appeared to reach for a firearm located inside the car, leading to the officers opening fire, police said
The four officers involved will be placed on a paid administrative leave per department policy.
