The man killed was wanted on an open warrant, police said.
Around 8 p.m., several officers were monitoring the man who was wanted in connection to a shooting in the Fairway Estates earlier this month.
Police saw him walk out of a residence and into the passenger seat of a white four-door sedan. Officers followed the vehicle as it left the home and performed a traffic stop near the U.S. 1 and Beville intersection to take him into custody. Officers boxed in the vehicle so he could not leave and sent a K-9 unit in when the man refused to peacefully leave the vehicle, police said.
As the K-9 attempted to pull him out of the vehicle, the man appeared to reach for a firearm located inside the car, leading to the officers opening fire, police said
The four officers involved will be placed on a paid administrative leave per department policy.
From my view inside the car, looks like officers are checking out an unmarked police car? that is parked behind the suspect's sedan. There is also a police car jammed up against the front of the sedan. pic.twitter.com/M86mqSrEeM
