OCPS superintendent Barbara Jenkins announces retirement

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins will retire after 10 years in the position, the school district announced Tuesday.

Jenkins will open the 2022-2023 school year, but officially retire in December, closing out more than 30 years serving the needs of OCPS students, the school district said.

The school board has been aware of Jenkins’ approaching retirement since she has been enrolled in Florida’s Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) since 2018, according to the school district.

The board has discussed a tentative timeline to name Jenkins’ replacement, which will begin with a work session set for Feb. 15.

Jenkins confirmed the news in a tweet

“Through the years, it has been my honor to work with phenomenal board members, teachers, administrators and support staff who are committed to leading our students to success,” she wrote. “Serving in this role has been a calling and a tremendous blessing.
