Downtown entertainment venues that in September filed a lawsuit against the city of Orlando and its police chief are pushing back against the defendants’ request that a judge dismiss the case.

The city ordinance at the center of the lawsuit was enacted March 20, 2023, and requires certain businesses within the downtown entertainment area to fund general public safety measures that plaintiffs say should be the responsibility of the city as a whole.

The defendants consistently in court filings and public statements have insisted the ordinance is in place to prioritize public safety.
