The county has already started charging non-residents more to park and drive on the beach.
“What the non-residents of Volusia County may not know Is that the operation of our beach, everything from portlets, to lifeguards, to our turtle surveyors, to maintenance of the parks was all funded by our private property taxes,” said County Coastal Director, Jessica Fentress.
Fentress explains because of that, the new program gives residents a break by making all on and off beach parking and driving free as long as they are registered through the county.
Non-residents have the option to pay $20 per day or purchase and annual pass at $100 a year for off beach parking or $150 a year to drive onto the beach and park.
If you don’t pay, Fentress said you’ll be charged the fee to park plus $50. After 14 days, that fine goes up to $100.
The county passes are only accepted at its 60 lots which doesn’t include city run lots like in Daytona Beach or New Smyrna Beach.
