New database tracks available hospital beds for COVID-19, other patients

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A new online database will help track the patients in hospitals being seen for COVID-19 and other emergencies.

The Agency for Health Care Administration released an online dashboard that shows hospital beds available in real time.

As for regular beds, there are about 59,000 in the state. As of Monday night, about 57% of those beds were filled.

There are also more than 6,000 ICU beds in Florida, more than 63% of them are already filled up.

The database also allows you to see how many beds are in each county. In Orange and Osceola counties, 41% of the adult ICU beds area available.

While hospitals are seeing COVID-19 patients, they are also still treating patients for broken arms and severe emergencies like a stroke.

The new online database will track the mix of patients to see more patients as the COVID-19 peak approaches.

There are hundreds of hospitals in the state and dozens in Central Florida. Officials say they anticipate those hospitals will see more patients as the COVID-19 peak approaches.

“First, our peak was May 4, then it was going to be the 21st of April, now it’s going to be the 26th of April,” said Jared Moskowitz, director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

As hospitals across the state prepare, data shows they are not overwhelmed with patients right now.

“We’ve worked very hard to make sure that hospital system would hold up during this period,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said.
