Central Florida medical professionals describe the effect gun violence is having on them

ORLANDO, Fla. — Doctors are facing more trauma in the emergency room because of everyday gun violence.

Sometimes innocent victims are caught in the crossfire, and they range in age from one to 74 years old.

For the first time, 9 Investigates is talking to medical professionals about the impact that gun violence has had on medical staff and how often shooting victims are being admitted to Central Florida hospitals.

The exclusive data we obtained is startling.

“We talk about desensitization,” said Dr. Michael Cheatham, of Orlando Health. “Even the public has become desensitized.”
