New affordable housing trend comes to Central Florida

A new affordable housing option is picking up steam across Central Florida and the rest of the country: Entire communities of for-rent, single-family homes.

American Homes 4 Rent is just one of the many options across the region specializing in offering brand-new “for rent” communities of single-family homes with resort-inspired amenities.

It currently had four new communities slated in Central Florida, and keeps adding more across the U.S.

Land expert Brad Parker with Longwood-based Southern Realty said one draw for these types of homes is they quickly dismiss the stereotype that areas known as affordable housing with high rental volume eventually means lower property values.

“Actually, it’s a better product for a municipality that wants to keep the standard high as far as the visibility factor,” he said.
