Neighbors surprised to hear of Titusville coaches' arrests on drug charges

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Neighbors said they were surprised to hear about the arrests of two Titusville High School football coaches for their alleged participation in a drug ring.

Leonard Agee Jr., 40, and fellow Titusville High School football coach Benjamin Jenkins, 36, were arrested and charged in federal court with conspiracy to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. They bonded out of jail Wednesday evening.

Channel 9 found out the men had arrests for minor charges that the school board knew about.

But one of them didn't disclose a misdemeanor arrest for drug paraphernalia.

"Kind of a shock. I know there's a number of people who live right next door," said neighbor David Logsdon.

Neighbors said they've seen activity, but didn't know their neighbor was running what federal investigators describe as a large-scale drug distribution operation in Brevard County, which included cocaine, heroin, marijuana and the painkiller fentanyl.

Agee and Jenkins were sent termination letters from the school district.

Both had misdemeanor arrests on their records, and the state even reprimanded Agee for his record in April of last year.

Documents show that if Agee was hired he was to "refrain from transporting minor students in or on motor vehicles."

The court documents show investigators watched Agee make a drug delivery in September and that “the passenger was a high school student and football player at Titusville High School, coached by Agee Jr. and Jenkins."

A confidential informant told investigators Agee would give him as much as $40,000 in cash to fly to Colorado every month and bring marijuana back to Florida.
