Mount Dora home destroyed in New Year’s Eve explosion, investigators working to determine cause

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County Officials have confirmed what caused a home in Mount Dora to explode suddenly on New Year’s Eve.

Investigators said the explosion was related to a gas buildup in the home’s kitchen area. 

The explosion happened just after 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 at Riley’s Mobile Home Park off of Highway 441 in Mount Dora.

Lake County officials said one man was pulled out of the home and airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries.

Witnesses told Channel 9 the man was trapped inside the home for several minutes before he was able to escape the rubble.
