OCALA, Fla. — A 12-year-old Marion County middle school student was arrested after making threats to conduct a shooting on social media.

Ocala police said the Howard Middle School student had made threats on Snapchat that he was going “shoot the school” or “stab some people” because he was upset following a breakup with his girlfriend.

When detectives interviewed the student, he admitted to sending the messages, but claimed he had no intention of actually carrying out the threat.

The student was charged with making an electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting, which is a felony.
