MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — Streets were flooded in Merritt Island neighborhoods Sunday as Hurricane Irma hit Florida, with destructive winds and rain.
Channel 9 reporter Shannon Butler was on Banana River Drive, where water rose to the middle of mail box posts.
Butler said many homes were boarded up, but there were few sandbags in place to protect the interior of the residences from flooding.
